Book cradle accommodates material up to 30 x 50 cm /14 x 20 in. with a thickness of up to 20 cm / 4 in. Two pages can be copied simultaneously; a built-in counterbalance mechanism automatically adjusts for the varying thickness of the two halves of the book so that they always lie perfectly flat against the plate glass cover. The self-arresting glass plate cover is spring loaded for added operating convenience; an additional pullout retaining frame supports the free half of oversized books and thus allows copying even extra large items with equal convenience. The attached AIAXact Bessant Sling allows greater support for very fragile books by allowing adjustment of angle up to 90 degrees, and allows accomodating oversized books.

The package features a floor stand with grid marked composite baseboard, a motorized 60" column with remote control and NO HEAT! energy saving high intensity lighting. Energy saving HID lighting reduces operating costs by as much as 90% (as measured against Tungsten ) and the Schneider APO lens insures capture of the BetterLight//AI’s maximum resolution.

The AIA/Bassant Book Sling is a series of two rollers containing a moveable and tension-adjustable sheet of heavy shamy cloth. This allows a book to be put into the book cradle vertically, thus adapting the basic design to accommodate larger books and still meet curatorial standards for supporting the book’s spine.
