AIA reached the conclusion that for volume scanning of slides, negatives, roll film, and glass plates we would have to reinvent the wheel. The question became who already had the “wheel”. It was answered easily. First we eliminated every Service Bureau we could indentify, who where offering price only bargains, sending out valuable originals to off- shore locations, and who had absolutely no idea what the curatorial concerns or imaging standards of the sending institutions. Then we had an epiphany. Why not join forces with one of our own clients. An established leader in the field, all systems go, and after all, we sold them some their equipment.

Thus, Boston Photo Imaging, of Boston Ma, became our partner in supplying outsourcing services to our clients. We are very proud of our partnership with BPI and their outstanding management and staff. AIA and BPI offer three models volume (collection) outsourcing for transparencies such as slides of all formats, and glass plates:

  1. Digital conversion done at BPI facility. We help you plan, package, and send your originals, provide management and tracking tools for your use, and provide a level of personal customer service that would put LL Bean to shame.
  2. Facilities Management. Sometimes originals are too valuable to be shipped, or there are institutional reasons for keeping the originals on site. Scanning is done at your site with BPI supplying the equipment and staff.
  3. Hybrid. There are times when institutions may have the proper equipment, but, for various reasons, staffing is a problem. The solution is, like a temp. service, BPI supplies the staff.
