The heart of the eyelike system is a 3 x 3 square centimeter CCD sensor, measuring 2048 by 2048 pixels. This chip makes it possible to take one-shot pictures using either flash or continuous light. The one-shot mode allows the user a choice of shutter speeds and delivers a 12 MByte file. In four-shot mode the chip is moved by a distance of one pixel for each exposure, thus capturing the RGB information.

Different color filters in front of each individual CCD cell create a color image with every exposure. When the camera is in live or focussing mode, these images are continually transferred along a 33-foot fiber optic cable to the computer's monitor. The photographer controls setup and focus on the computer screen.

Eyelike's advanced piezo technology, that moves the chip in not one but two directions, allows it to "scan" the image. The optional scanning module captures ~ images of up to 6144 x 6144 pixels which leads to 108 to 216 MByte of image data without interpolation in less than a minute.

eyelike is a revolutionary digital camera system that offers various exposure techniques for portrait, catalogue and still life photography in one modular system. The eyelike can be used as a camera back as well as a camera body. This means that the photographer can use his existing equipment, whether view cameras or lenses. As the camera works with continuous light as well as with flash, the existing light sources can also be used.

The modular concept gives the chance to start with the affordable eyelike basic, which already offers many features and to upgrade by degrees according to the individual demands.
